Precision matters more in crypto than in forex
Fiat pairs move in fractions of a percent per day; crypto pairs can move that much between two page refreshes. That has two practical consequences. First, timestamp every valuation — an amount “worth $10,000” is worth $10,000 at a moment, and tax authorities generally want the rate at the exact time of the transaction. Second, for small coins the quoted rate is an average across venues that may individually trade percent apart, so treat the output as fair value, not an executable quote.

Why does my exchange show a slightly different number?
Every exchange trades at its own bid and ask, and thin books diverge from the global average — especially for small caps. Expect a spread of a few tenths of a percent on majors and more on the long tail. For actual orders, the executable price on your venue is the one that counts.
