What is Lido DAO?
Lido lets holders stake ETH without running validators or locking capital. Deposits of any size are pooled, delegated to vetted node operators, and represented by stETH, a liquid token that accrues staking rewards daily and can be traded or used as DeFi collateral. This solved early Ethereum staking's twin problems, the 32 ETH minimum and withdrawal lockups, and made stETH one of the most widely integrated assets in decentralized finance.
Under the hood, Lido routes ETH to a curated operator set and, since Lido V2, supports permissionless withdrawals that keep stETH tightly pegged. The protocol charges a 10 percent fee on staking rewards, split between node operators and the DAO treasury. LDO has a fixed supply of 1 billion tokens with no emissions, burns, or buybacks; its role is governance over fees, operator onboarding, and treasury spending.
Launched in December 2020 alongside the Beacon Chain, Lido grew into the largest liquid staking protocol, at times securing more than a quarter of all staked ETH, a concentration that still fuels decentralization debates. Withdrawals went live in May 2023, and the V3 "stVaults" design targets institutional custom staking setups. Friendlier 2025 US regulatory signals on liquid staking improved LDO's standing, though the token captures no direct revenue.
What moves the LDO price?
LDO trades as a lever on Ethereum staking economics: total ETH staked through Lido, the stETH share of the market, and DAO treasury revenue from the 10 percent reward fee. Proposals to share revenue with LDO holders resurface periodically and move the price, since today the token confers governance rights but no cash flow.
Regulatory posture matters more than for most DeFi tokens because US authorities have scrutinized staking services; 2025 guidance treating liquid staking receipts favorably lifted sentiment. Competitive pressure from restaking platforms, exchange staking, and Rocket Pool, plus recurring worries about Lido's validator concentration, shape flows. LDO supply is fully circulating, so unlock schedules are no longer a factor.
Lido DAO FAQ
What is Lido DAO (LDO) used for?
LDO is purely a governance token. Holders vote on Lido protocol parameters: the 10 percent staking-fee split, node operator additions and removals, treasury grants, and upgrades such as V3 stVaults. It does not represent staked ETH, that is stETH's job, and it currently pays no dividend or staking yield.
What is LDO's token supply?
Exactly 1 billion LDO were minted at launch in December 2020, and no more can be created. There are no emissions, burns, or buybacks. Early team and investor allocations vested years ago, so effectively the entire supply circulates, with the DAO treasury holding a governance-controlled remainder.
Is Lido DAO a good investment in 2026?
Bulls point to Lido's dominant share of staked ETH, real fee revenue flowing to the DAO, and clearer US treatment of liquid staking. Bears note LDO holders receive none of that revenue, restaking rivals are growing, and validator-concentration criticism persists. Do your own research; nothing here is financial advice.
