What is Jupiter?
Jupiter is the main liquidity router on Solana. When users swap tokens through wallets like Phantom or through Jupiter's own interface, the aggregator splits orders across Raydium, Orca, Meteora, and dozens of other venues to find the best execution price. Around that core it has built limit orders, dollar-cost-averaging tools, a perpetual futures exchange, and launch infrastructure, making it the default trading layer for much of the Solana ecosystem.
Routing itself is free to use; revenue comes from perps trading fees, the token launchpad, and ancillary products. JUP governs the protocol through vote-escrowed staking. The token launched with a 10 billion maximum supply, but the team burned 3 billion in January 2025, cutting the cap to 7 billion. A Litterbox Trust commits half of protocol revenue to open-market JUP buybacks, and community airdrops recur each January, branded "Jupuary."
Founder Meow shipped the aggregator in 2021, and the JUP token arrived via a landmark January 2024 airdrop to roughly a million Solana wallets, one of the era's largest distributions. Follow-on Jupuary airdrops in 2025 and 2026 kept the community engaged, while acquisitions such as the Moonshot memecoin app broadened the product line. Jupiter routinely ranks among the highest-volume DEX front ends in all of crypto.
What moves the JUP price?
Solana activity is the dominant input: memecoin churn, perps volume, and launchpad throughput all feed the fee pool that funds Litterbox Trust buybacks, which absorb about 50 percent of protocol revenue. When on-chain volumes fade, both the buyback bid and the governance narrative weaken together, so JUP amplifies Solana's own cycles.
Supply events cut both ways. The 3 billion token burn of January 2025 was strongly supportive, while each Jupuary airdrop and team unlock adds circulating supply that markets price in ahead of time. Exchange access is broad after Binance and Coinbase listings, so incremental catalysts now come from product launches, acquisitions, and DAO decisions on emission pacing.
Jupiter FAQ
What is Jupiter (JUP) used for?
JUP is Jupiter's governance token. Stakers vote on protocol direction, launchpad candidates, and emission decisions, and staking has been a qualifying factor for Jupuary airdrop allocations. The aggregator itself does not require JUP for swaps; the token's value case rests on governance plus buybacks funded by protocol revenue.
How many JUP tokens exist?
Original supply was capped at 10 billion, split evenly between team-managed and community reserves. In January 2025 Jupiter burned 3 billion tokens, lowering the maximum to 7 billion. Circulating supply grows through annual Jupuary airdrops and scheduled unlocks, while Litterbox Trust buybacks retire tokens using half of protocol revenue.
Is Jupiter a good investment in 2026?
Jupiter pairs real market share, top-tier DEX aggregation and a large perps venue, with an aggressive buyback-and-burn program, a rare combination. Risks are equally concrete: revenue depends on volatile Solana memecoin volumes, annual airdrops dilute holders, and competitors copy features quickly. Evaluate those trade-offs yourself; this is not financial advice.
Where can I buy JUP?
For a regulated route, CEX.IO supports JUP purchases with cards and bank transfers; enter promo code FREECRYPTO at signup to have a 100 USDC trading-fee bonus credited after your first deposit, valid 30 days. Binance, Coinbase, and Solana DEXs via Jupiter itself are alternatives.
